This past weekend, EDP Soccer hosted the EDP Summer Classic for 8U-19U boys and girls teams. The Summer Classic tournament is the final event of EDP Soccer’s ‘Classic Series’ for the 2022-2023 soccer season, and one of the most popular events of the year. The competition includes established teams that are finishing out their Spring season, and also new Summer programs starting their season.
This year's EDP Summer Classic featured over 300 teams from more than 125 clubs, including some of the top programs in the East Region. Clubs were represented from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Canada. Several of the top clubs in the region participated with four or more teams, including STA, Match Fit Academy, PDA, SJEB FC, PSA, FC Copa Academy, Deptford Premier FC, Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley, NJ Elite, FC Westchester, Ironbound SC, Manhattan SC, Boston Bolts, Jersey Shore Boca FC, and Liverpool FCNJ.
A look at some of the weekend's results:
8U Boys
In the Red Bracket, three sides finished with 3-1-0 records, with each team having a loss against one of the other three teams. Manhattan Kickers 2015, Albertson SC B15 White and NJ Premier FC B2015 Blue 2015 were the three teams with nine points, and Manhattan Kickers won the championship on the goal differential tie-breaker. Boston Bolts 2015 Boys All State won the White Bracket defeating STA in the final.
9U Girls
In the Red Bracket, Match Fit Academy FC 2014 Morris Pre-ECNL Blue went unbeaten all weekend. Keeping two clean sheets in their four matches, their attack contributed 23 goals over the four games, and they defeated SJYS - Summer Select 2014 Girls Summer Select Team 1 4-1 in the final. SJEB FC 14G Red won the White Bracket.
9U Boys
In the Red Bracket, NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase B2014 opened the event with a tough 5-3 win over Boston Bolts 2014 Boys All State, and then went on to dominate their next three matches. Behind a very talented attack, they would go on to defeat Liverpool FCNJ 2014, and would keep a clean sheet in the final against STA 2014B Pre-ECNL. RSMG Select 2014B defeated Manhattan Kickers in the final of the White Bracket, and FC Westchester South Eagles won the Blue Bracket.
10U Girls
In the Red Bracket, PDA 2013G Stars Blue won the bracket going 3-0-1. After winning their first three matches, they finished the weekend with a high scoring 5-5 draw against FC Westchester G2013 FC Westchester Blue, which saw PDA finish one point ahead of East Islip Soccer Club Red Thunder 2013. In the White Bracket, Match Fit Academy FC 2013 Morris Pre-ECNL White defeated PDA 2013G Stars White in the final.
10U Boys
In the Red Bracket, Boston Bolts 2013 Boys All State won group A going 3-0-0, setting up an all New England final where they would battle against Ginga FC Boys 2013 EDP White. Ginga reached the final by defeating Ball Masters Lions out of NY in their final group game. Boston Bolts would leave as champions defeating Ginga 6-3 in the championship match. In the White Bracket final, Spartans FC Northern FC defeated Manhattan SC PSG 2013 Blue.
11U Girls
In the Red Bracket, SJEB FC 12G Pre-GA went 3-0-0 through group play to reach the final. They would play SJYS - Summer Select 2012 Girls Summer Select Team 1 2023, who advanced to the final over PDA 2012G Express 1 with the head-to-head tie-breaker after winning their matchup 5-4. In the final, SJEB FC would win the match 3-1 to claim the championship. PDA 2012G White defeated FC Westchester Blue G2012 in the White Bracket final, and Match Fit Academy FC 2012 Morris Pre-ECNL White won the Yellow Bracket.
11U Boys
In the Red Bracket, RNYFC Youth 2012 Boys took on NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase B2012 Red in one of the most closely contested match-ups of the entire tournament. RNYFC Youth 2012 Boys reached the final drawing 2-2 in the final group game against Manhattan SC Racing 2012 Blue, putting them one point ahead of STA 2012B Pre-ECNL to win the group. NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase B2012 Red went a perfect 3-0-0 in the group stages, but suffered their only setback of the event in the final, and RNYFC Youth 2012 Boys took the championship back to Western NY. Manhattan SC Racing 2012 White won the White Bracket, and SB4U Academy won the Blue Bracket.
12U Girls
In the Red Bracket, SJEB FC 11G Pre-GA finished in first place with a perfect 4-0-0 record. Their closest match of the weekend came in their fourth match against second place Ginga FC Girls 2011 Elite Pre DPL. With both teams on nine points, SJEB FC came away with a 2-1 win to claim first place. In the White Bracket, Pickering FC 2011G Black beat PDA 2011 Spirit Regional in the final.
12U Boys
In the Red Bracket, STA 2011B Pre ECNL won the division going 3-0-1. They opened with a clean sheet against Seacoast United Bedford 2011 Elite Boys Blue, and then drew 2-2 against Manhattan Kickers. On Sunday, they scored four goals in each game and recorded back-to-back wins over Match Fit Academy FC Pre ECNL 2011 Blue and Cohansey Premier 2011 Navy. South Hackensack Strikers 2011 Boys won the White Bracket, and NJ Elite 11B won the Blue Bracket.
13U Girls
In the Red Bracket, PDA Blaze White 2010 overcame their only setback of the weekend to defeat Match Fit Academy FC 2011 Morris Pre-ECNL Blue in the final. After victories over Warrington SC 2010G and STA 2010G GA, they dropped a 2-1 decision to Cedar Stars Academy - Bergen 10G GA before winning the championship match. Franklin Elite Freedom 2010 won the White Bracket, STA MOSC 2010 USYS Girls won the Blue Bracket, and South Brunswick Cyclones won the Yellow Bracket.
13U Boys
In the Red Bracket, FSA 2010 was the lone team to go 3-0-0 in the group stage, and CAT Elite Boys 2010 was 2-0-1 after drawing SJEB 10B Academy in the opening match. In the final, CAT continued their run of wins after the opener with a big 5-0 win over FSA to claim first place. East Greenwich SA Kingsway Premier 2010 boys won the White Bracket, PSA Monmouth '10 Boys Orange won the Blue Bracket and Pittsgrove Soccer Club PSC Crush '10 won the Yellow Bracket.
14U Girls
In the Red Bracket, five out of six teams had a chance to reach the final when Sunday morning started. A 1-1 draw between Cedar Stars Academy - Bergen 09G GA and Force Soccer Academy GU14 Elite out of Canada meant that the Pittsgrove Soccer Club PSC Milan '09 win over Match Fit Academy FC Girls Mercer 2009 Blue put them in the final. In the championship game, SJEB FC 09 GA capped off its perfect weekend, making it four wins out of four defeating Pittsgrove 5-1. STA-MUSC 2009G NL EDP beat NEFC Bristol County Girls 2009 NL in the final of the White Bracket, and PSA North '09 EDP Girls won the Blue Bracket.
14U Boys
In the Red Bracket, New York Elite Alleycats FC 2009 NEAL beat out St. Mary's Soccer SMS 2009 Gunners Premier on a tie-breaker to reach the final and take on Match Fit Academy Ocean 2009 who was the top point getter in the group stage. Match Fit Academy Ocean 2009 opened with a 0-0 draw against Kearny Thistle United FC Gunners, and their strong back line allowed just one goal in each of their final three matches, which included a 3-1 win over New York Elite Alleycats in the championship. Juventus Academy Boston EDS N 2009 Boys won the White Bracket, and SJYS - Summer Select 2009 Boys Summer Select Team 2 2023 won the Blue Bracket.
15U Girls
In the Red Bracket, Philadelphia SC Coppa 08 Express finished in first place with nine points, one point ahead of Delaware Football Club 2008, despite Delaware Football Club 2008 winning the match between the two sides 2-1. PSC Coppa defeated New York City FC Girls NYCFC Girls 2008/09 and NJ Surf on Sunday to clinch the top spot. In the White Bracket, STA Mt Olive STA MOSC 2008 Girls won the final.
15U Boys
In the Red Bracket, SJ Futbol Club Cobras Elite went through the group stage going 3-0-0, but fell just short in the final, failing to score for the first time in the tournament and losing to a strong Jersey Shore Boca Jr FC Silva team in a very close game. Ironbound SC 2008 - UNITED won the White Bracket, PSA Monmouth '08 Boys EDP won the Blue bracket and Hulmeville SC Hoplites won the yellow bracket.
16U Boys
In the Red Bracket, Jersey Shore BOCA Jr FC 07 boys won each of their 4 games over the weekend, opening with a 3-1 win over FC Copa B07 Black Greater Flemington. They closed out the group stage with two more wins, and finished the event the same way they started, with another 3-1 win, this time over Jersey City Strikers. Sc Gjoa U16 Nordveit won the White Bracket, Upper Township SA Earthquakes 2007 won the Blue Bracket, and Hunterdon FC B2007 Liverpool won the Yellow Bracket.
HS Girls
In the Red Bracket, NJ Premier G2008 won first place, keeping clean sheets in three out of their four wins. The team also scored an impressive 18 goals in their four wins.
18U Boys
In the Red Bracket, Union County FC Flamengo took home first place, allowing just one goal all weekend. After a 2-1 win in their opening game, they recorded three straight clean sheets. STA Mt Olive SC 2006 EDP Boys won the White Bracket beating East Brunswick EBSC 2006 Premier Spurs in the final.
