EDP Soccer has announced the Best XI from last weekend’s EDP Cup Fall Showcase 2023 Girls. The selections were made based on the performance of the players during the tournament. Congratulations to the following players who were selected.
The Best XI from the EDP Cup Fall Showcase 2023 Girls are:
#7 Alex Foley - Cedar Stars Academy Monmouth 2005/06G NL
Alex played a key role in a Cedar Stars Monmouth defense that didn't let up a goal all event. Alex showed great composure and quality on the ball when building out from the back, exemplary communication, organization skills to aid her teammates, and proved to be a dependable, aggressive ball-winner in the back line.
#8 Chloe Moser - Sporting PA 05/06 Girls
Chloe makes her second consecutive Best XI in the EDP Cup Fall Showcase. She was the hardest worker and one of the smarter players on the field every game. As a center back, her field awareness and leadership was special, and led the team to keep three clean sheets.
#3 Gigi Duncan - North Union United SC 06F Wave
Gigi was dynamite this weekend at center back, not only shutting down opposing attacks, but also starting the offense with accurate and timely line-breaking passes. Gigi and a couple of her teammates were fresh off a PA State Championship win on Friday, so we, as a team, were unable to train prior to the tournament. This was our first time together for nearly four months. Her ability to communicate with everyone and organize our shape and defensive marks was also a very impressive quality throughout the weekend. All of her leadership qualities are what led us to the top of our bracket.
#12 Kati Maxwell - NJ Surf South Shore 07G
Kati was an integral part of the success of her team. Her ability to read the game along with tackling, positioning, and poise on the ball was great to watch and a main contributor to the team only giving up two goals all weekend.
#5 Leah Kalan - Sporting Columbus Girls 2007 ECNL RL
Leah was phenomenal leading the SC 2007 ECNL RL team. Her defending abilities shut down some of the best attackers in the event. Leah was a catalyst for transitioning out of the back into the attack. Her ability to read the game and create dynamic attacking situations using a variety of played balls contributed to the SC 2007 ECNL RL team leading the bracket after all the matches.
#9 Blake Nisenson - TSF Academy 2007 Girls
Blake had an outstanding showcase for TSF scoring five goals and two assists in three games. Her hold-up play was strong and effective, as well as her ability to get in behind the opponent’s back line, creating goal-scoring opportunities for her team.
#12 Izzy DiMattia - YMS 2008 Girls Premier Spirit NL EDP
Izzy plays center back where she holds the defense together with her communication. Izzy is great in the air, winning numerous headers and clearing the ball. The team played top teams from CT, OH, and PAW this weekend, while only conceding two goals.
#3 Alyssa Koczak - Valley FC 2008 EDP National Team
Alyssa did a fantastic job of controlling the middle of the field as the team’s holding midfielder, with her tireless work rate and fearless attitude in winning the first and second ball.
#2 Camilla Wright - Penn Alliance Select Elite '09
Camilla demonstrated exceptional prowess as a forward during the EDP Cup Fall Showcase. Despite competing in an older division, her relentless attacking style was instrumental. Camilla's remarkable work rate, coupled with her ability to receive the ball in space, drive straight at center backs, and skillfully beat defenders resulted in two impressive goals and a vital assist out of the team's five goals for the weekend.
#8 Isabella Alvarez - Jersey Shore Boca Jr FC O'Hara
Isabella was a pivotal player, anchoring the defense, showcasing strong defensive skills and strategic playmaking. Her vision to switch play, counter-attack, and change pace led Jersey Shore Boca O’Hara to a perfect record.
#11 Demetra Gatzulis - Chicago Rush SC Rush United Phenoms G2009
Demetra helped lead the team to an undefeated weekend! She is a great all-around player, teammate, and competitor. She was consistent in all games throughout the weekend. As a center midfielder, she helped her team score goals and create attacking chances out of the midfield. Her work rate was unmatched throughout the EDP Cup Fall Showcase this past weekend!
