EDP Soccer has announced the Best XI from last weekend’s EDP Cup Fall Showcase 2023 Boys. The selections were made based on the performance of the players during the tournament. Congratulations to the following players who were selected.
The Best XI from the EDP Cup Fall Showcase 2023 Boys are:
#9 Tanner Horvath - HEX FC Dominion ECNL 06B
Tanner, the team's center back, was calm in possession out of the back and a great 1v1 defender winning his duals. He is very strong in the air and kept the backline organized and only conceded one goal the entire weekend on a last minute penalty.
#3 Caden Bredeman - Lancaster Football Club U19
Caden is the team captain and center midfielder. He is a well-rounded player with a skill set that encompasses offensive creativity, defensive responsibility, leadership, and adaptability. His influence on the game extends beyond specific roles, making him a pivotal player in the team's overall strategy. Caden was a crucial part of the team's success this weekend.
#4 Jace Bennett - FC Frederick 06B
Jace did not allow a goal against in the three games at the showcase, continuing an impressive run of form. Jace is the team’s starting goal keeper, but shares time during showcases. He has a calming presence for the team and often starts the attack. He also is great at organizing the back line and making spectacular saves when called upon.
#9 Altin Nikezi - FC Copa B07 Gray Rutgers
Altin had a tremendous impact on the weekend for FC Copa B07 Gray this weekend scoring three goals and having one assist. His two goals in the team’s 2-1 win in their final match, allowed the team to secure first place in their bracket.
#77 Nicholas Clarke - FC Copa B07 Gray Rutgers
Nicholas scored two goals in the first game of the tournament and set a tone of relentless effort at the Showcase. Nicholas is a tenacious player on both sides of the ball and was a force all weekend for the opposition to deal with.
#40 Sasha Bejarno - BW Gottschee '07 II
Sasha was one of the team’s most consistent performers, winning every tackle during each of the matches, and was an integral part of the team's success.
#16 Dylan Solano - Ironbound SC 2008 NAL
Dylan played center back and held the defense and team together with his communication. Dylan is great in the air, winning numerous headers and playing out of the back. The team did not concede any goals in the showcase.
#16 Theo Reed - Sporting PA 2008 Boys
Theo played a key role in an offense that scored the most goals in its bracket. Theo scored in each game and also contributed assists. He and his strike partner, Tyler Jaskelewicz, were a dominant force up front, and Theo set the tone for Sporting PA all weekend with his hard work both on and off the ball. Theo also took on a new role as the team’s primary free kick taker, scoring two fantastic goals from set pieces on the weekend.
#1 Billy Burke - YMS 2008 Boys Premier Celtic NL EDP
Billy is one of the top goalkeepers in the age group, and only gave up one goal in three games, making some big saves to keep the team in games.
#18 Ryan O’Donnell - STA 2009B ECNL
Ryan scored six goals over the weekend from the attacking midfield position. He scored the game winner in the opening game, had a brace in the second game, and scored a hat trick in the final game.
#27 Adrien Albanese - Woodbridge 2009 Boys OPDL
Adrien is arguably the best 1v1 defender in the Canadian OPDL 2009 boys age group, and it showed during the showcase. A true leader, his work ethic, intensity and grit is unmatched. The Woodbridge 2009 Boys OPDL conceded just one goal this weekend off a direct free kick. No opponent scored in open play due to his leadership and defensive skills.
