EDP Cup Fall 2024 - Tournament Recap



The EDP Cup Fall 2024 concluded on Sunday afternoon, ending a special weekend featuring top teams from around the country. Teams enjoyed beautiful weather both days across each of the events five venues. The best vs best atmosphere created by having teams from MLS Academies, National Academy League, Girls Academy League, ECNL, National League, plus international teams was just one of the reasons the event was once again a top Columbus Day event in the nation. 

Clubs from all four regions of the country competed, representing Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Ontario, and Quebec. Of the over 570 teams from 150+ Clubs, several clubs and teams stood out from the rest. 

From clubs with five or more teams in attendance, seven clubs had an over 2.0 PPG across their teams, with Valencia SA leading the way 2.389, followed by PSA, World Class FC, Beachside SC, East Coast FC, Futboltech, and McLean YS. In the Goals Scored category, New York SC led the tournament with 193 goals scored, followed by Brooklyn United, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, STA, Massapequa, Wall SC, Futboltech and Valencia SA all eclipsing the 100-goal mark. Four clubs had four teams finish with a perfect 3 PPG in the group stages, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals.

Boys 

In the Platinum Division, both Valencia 2017 Black and TSF Academy 2017 Blue came out of their brackets 3-0-0 after facing the top 2017 teams from NJ, PA and NY. Valencia, one of the top 2017 cemented their spot as one of the top 2017s in the region, defeating TSF 5-1 in the final, allowing just four goals in their four games. 


In the Platinum Division, Bracket A came to a thrilling conclusion between SYC 2016B Pre-MLS Next and The Football Academy NJ 2016 Boys Black. Both sitting on 4 points and with The Football Academy needing just a draw to go to the final, they tied the score 2-2 with just a few minutes remaining, but SYC scored right at the final whistle to win and reach the final. They would face off against Sporting Athletic Club 2016B Black, who came out of a very competitive Bracket B with one win and two ties. The final saw SYC come away with the 2-0 win for the championship.

 

In the Platinum Red Division, Coppermine SC Boys 2015 Academy 1 advanced out of Bracket A with a one-goal win of NY Red Bulls Pre-Academy 2015 North and STA 2015B Black, and a big win over Philadelphia Union Junior Academy 2015. FC DELCO Black Conshy '15 reached the final bouncing back from an opening game 7-5 defeat against Futboltech 2015 Liverpool, then defeating FA Euro New York Bridgeview Academy 2015 and Next Level Soccer (AZ) Southeast 2015 Boys Black. In the final, Coppermine won the high-scoring affair by a 5-3 scoreline. 


In the Platinum Blue Division, East Coast Football Club B2015 had their share of close matches, after defeating New York SC B2015 Blue 3-1 in the opener, they won 5-4 over NEFC Metro West Boys 2015 MLS Futures Navy and 4-3 over Real Futbol Academy RFA 2015. In the final, they took on an undefeated Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 15B Black and won another close match 4-3. 


In the Platinum Red Division, Bracket B saw three teams finish 2-0-1, creating drama on the final day. On Sunday, New York Red Bulls Pre-Academy 2014 North entered as the lone 2-0-0 team, but fell 4-1  to ATL Xpress, while Tournament Time GA Elites 2014 Boys defeated Nationals Oakland 14 Boys Blue 4-0, meaning Tournament Time would advance with a +4 GD compared to ATL Xpress +3 GD. Real Futbol Academy RFA 2014 Pre-MLS advanced out of Bracket A after defeating SYC 2014B Pre-MLS Next and Coppermine SC Boys 2014 Academy 1, and drawing 1-1 against Philadelphia Union Junior Academy 2014. The final ended in a 1-1 draw, with Tournament Time winning on penalty kicks. 


In the Platinum Blue Division, Bracket A saw a two-way tie for first place, with both SAC Boys 2014 - Pre-Academy and Futboltech 2014 Man City going 1-0-2, and SAC advancing on goal differential. Torpedoes BU11 Red advanced to the final by getting a 0-0 draw against Baltimore Celtic 2014B Green Dossouvi on Sunday morning and would go on to defeat SAC 3-1 for the championship.  



In the Platinum Red Division, Los Amigos, a tiny club out of Atlanta took on the top teams in the nation and came out on top. Opening with an impressive 3-1 win over New York Red Bulls - Bulls, they then suffered their only set back with a 1-0 loss to Penn Fusion Soccer Academy PreECNL 2013. They beat New York SC NYSC B2013 Blue 1-0 to reach the final and would then defeat another MLS Academy Philadelphia Union Junior Academy 2013 2-1 in the final, scoring two first half goals. 


In the Platinum Blue Division, New York City FC Blue showed why they are one of the top academies in the country, putting on an impressive performance in all four matches. They opened with back-to-back 3-2 wins over The Football Academy NJ 2013 Boys Black and SYC 2013B Pre-MLS Next and returned Sunday with two dominating performances. A clean sheet against EJ7, and then another clean sheet over FC DELCO Pre-MLS Next Black '13 in the final. 


In the Platinum Division, Coppermine SC Boys 2012 ECNL RL needed to defeat or tie Arlington SA 2012B ECNL on Sunday morning to reach the final and did so by winning 2-1. Baltimore Union Soccer Club Elite would set up an intrastate finals match up after they defeated STA 2012B Pre-ECNL 4-3 to climb above STA and The Football Academy NJ 2012 Boys Black on day two. In the final, it was all Coppermine, as they won 5-1 to finish in first place. 


In the Platinum Division, Bracket B saw all four teams enter day two sitting on two points. Arlington SA 2011B ECNL and The Football Academy NJ 2011 Boys Black were both in pole position with a +1 GD and playing each other. Arlington scored early on a beautiful shot from the left flank into the far post, which would end up being the only goal of the match to claim their spot in the final. They would take on Cedar Stars Academy North 11B Elite 64 in the final, who was 3-0-0 in the group stages, and after both teams went down to 10 men, Arlington came away with a 3-0 victory.

 

In the Platinum Division, LI Slammers Boys 2010 NAL and Ironbound SC 2010 NAL played in the opening match and then had a rematch in the finals. In the opener, LI Slammers came out with a 3-2 win, and in the final, they again scored three goals, but was able to hold off the Ironbound attack, and finished with a 3-0 win. 




Girls 

In the Diamond Division, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 16G Black went a perfect 3-0-0 in the group stage, defeating in state opponent PA Rush 2016 Girls 4-2 to finish top of the group. In the final they took on a very tough Real Futbol Academy RFA 2016G side who held them to their lowest scoring output of the weekend, but Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals were able to come out with a 2-1 win


In the Diamond Division, three teams finished 2-1-0, with PDA South advancing to the final over New York SC NYSC G2015 Blue and FC Bucks 2015 Red Stars to take on an undefeated Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 15G Black. Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 15G Black would go on to finish the weekend a perfect 4-0-0 with a 1-0 win over PDA South in the championship.

 

In the Diamond Division, the final was a matchup of two 3-0-0 sides. Nationals Oakland 14 Girls Black used a high-powered attack to defeat AC Connecticut 4-1, New York SC 5-1 and Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 4-2. FC Bucks 2014 Magic used strong defensive efforts, keeping a clean sheet in two out of their three group games. In the final, it was a very even contest, ending in a 1-1 draw with FC Bucks winning on penalty kicks. 



In the Diamond Division, STA 13G Pre-GA and Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 13G Pre-ECNL met in a rematch of the opening match which saw STA win 5-3. Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals bounced back with a 3-2 win over New York SC NYSC G2013 Blue and 4-1 over HEX FC Bucks Pre-ECNL 13G, and carried that momentum into the final, and this time defeating STA 3-1 to win the championship.

 

In the Diamond Division, no teams were able to make it out of the group stages without dropping points. Real Futbol Academy RFA U13G NAL advanced defeating New York SC 12G GA 4-0, NYCFC Girls 2012 North 3-2 and drawing NY Surf G2012 ECNL/RL 1-1. NYCFC defeated both SJEB FC 12G NAL and HEX FC Bucks ECNL 12G, and in the final, was able to turn the tide against Real Futbol Academy, taking the championship back to New York behind a strong attacking performance. 


In the Diamond Division, Marlton Chiefs Premier 2011 came up just short after an impressive run to the finals. An opening 2-1 win over the # 1 team in the nation – Yardley Makefield Soccer 2011 Girls Flames – they then defeated AC Connecticut G2011 NAL 3-0. On Sunday, they came back and beat STA 11G GA 1-0 to reach the finals but ran out of steam against a strong New York SC 11G GA side. New York SC would leave as champions, defeating Marlton in the final after opening with 2 wins against HEX FC Bucks ECNL 11G and SJEB FC 11G GA, and drawing 3-3 against NJ Premier G2011.
