This past weekend, EDP Soccer hosted one of its flagship events of the Summer— the EDP Central Jersey Invitational 2023. The event featured over 220 teams from more than 50 clubs and five different states. Teams competed across 40 divisions with games being played at Friendship Fields, Mercer County Park, and Sawmill YMCA.
A look at some of the weekend's results:
8U Boys
In the Miles Robinson bracket, RSMG Select 2015B got off to a strong start, defeating Patruno FP 2015B in the opening match. On Sunday, they returned with an attack that was tough to stop, defeating Valencia Soccer Academy Sharks Select to reach the final. In the final, they recorded a big win over Philadelphia Union PPP 2015 Gold to claim the championship. Other champions in the age group included Philadelphia Union 2015 PPP Navy and Futboltech Summer Select - 2015 Boys White.
8U Girls
In the Alana Cook bracket, PDA 2015G White won first place with a record of 4-0-0. Recording 18 goals in four wins, their 5-4 win over PDA 2015G Blue in the final game saw them finish three points ahead of second place Futboltech Summer Select - 2015 Girls.
9U Boys
In the Antonee Robinson bracket, NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase B2014 was the lone team to finish the group stages with three wins and would take on RSMG Select 2014B in the final, who was 2-0-1 in the group stages. The two dominant sides battled back-and-forth for the entirety of the championship match, with RSMG Select 2014B victorious by a 3-1 scoreline. Total Soccer 2014 Boys and Philadelphia Union 2014 PPP White claimed the age group’s other two championships.
9U Girls
In the Sofia Huerta bracket, Futboltech Summer Select - 2014 Girls won all four of their matches over the weekend on their way to a championship. Three of the four wins were by 3-1 score lines, including wins over NJ Surf South Shore, PDA 2014G, and Hazlet United Dash in the championship match. Jackson SC Surge Red and Kosmos FC TST Maia Blue G2014 won the age group’s other brackets.
10U Boys
In the Gio Reyna bracket, both Philadelphia Union 2013 PPP Gold and Monmouth United Soccer 2013 Boys MDS finished group stages 3-0-0. In the final, Philadelphia Union won the match 5-1 to win the championship. Other champions in the age group were Philadelphia Union 2013 PPP Navy and Philadelphia Union 2013 PPP White.
10U Girls
In the Alex Morgan bracket, PDA 2013G Stars Blue used a strong attack to reach the final, winning their group stage games 5-3, 7-2, and 4-2 to finish 3-0-0. In the final, it was the defense that stepped up, keeping a clean sheet to win 1-0 over RSMG Select 2013G. Royal Sporting 2013 NY Gold won the Crystal Dunn bracket with a final score of 3-1.
11U Boys
In the Christian Pulisic bracket, La Hermandad came out very strong on day one, recording big wins over NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase B2012 Red and PDA 2012 Pre-MLS Next. On day two, they finished out the impressive weekend with a win in the final over Monmouth United Soccer 2012 Boys Select A. Other age group winners included Futboltech Summer Select - 2012 Boys, Philadelphia Union PPP NJ 2012 Blake and Cedar Stars Academy North 2012 Boys Summer Select White.
11U Girls
In the Rose Lavelle bracket, it was very even across the five teams, with PDA Shore Blue 2012 Pre-ECNL RL Freedom coming out on top. After four games, they finished at 10 points, with Cedar Stars Academy Lacey 2013G Green and SJYS - Summer Select 2012 Girls on six points, and FC Westchester Blue G2012 on five points. The other three brackets were won by Lehigh Valley United 2012 Girls Black, SJEB FC 12G White, and SJYS - Summer Select 2013 Girls.
12U Boys
In the Matt Turner bracket, Philadelphia Union 2011 PPP Gold kept two clean sheets to open the weekend, defeating Stamford FC Boys 2011 White and Real Elite 2011 Boys White. The final was a high-scoring game against Cedar Stars Academy - Monmouth NE Academy 11 Team 1, with Philadelphia Union 2011 PPP Gold winning 4-3. Philadelphia Union 2011 PPP Navy and Europa Lions FC 2011B Blue also won their bracket’s championships.
12U Girls
In the Lindsay Horan bracket, NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase G2011/12 defeated PDA 2012G Express 1 3-1 to reach the final in a crucial final group stage game. In the final, NY Red Bulls RDS Showcase G2011/12 defeated Philadelphia Union PPP 2011 Girls 3-0. PDA 2011 Spirit Regional won the Sophia Smith bracket.
13U Boys
In the Walker Zimmerman bracket, Philadelphia Union 2010 PPP Gold allowed just one goal in their four matches, keeping three consecutive clean sheets. After opening with a 3-1 win over Cedar Stars Academy North 2010 Boys Summer Select, they closed out the weekend with a 4-0 win over MLU Premier and 5-0 over FC DELCO Summer Select White '10. Other age group winners were Philadelphia Union 2010 PPP Navy and Cedar Stars Academy North 2011 Boys Summer Select.
13U Girls
In the Kristie Mewis bracket, it was an all-PDA final as PDA 2011G Spirit Blue took on PDA Blaze White 2010 in the final. Both teams were unbeaten in group play, with Spirit going 3-0-0 and Blaze going 2-0-1. In the final, Blaze would come away as 4-1 winners. In the other bracket, Maroons-G13A-Manning would win the championship.
14U Boys
In the Folarin Balogun bracket, Philadelphia Union 2009 PPP Gold started the weekend with a tough 3-2 win over eventual runner-up Future SA 10 DC. They would then go on to win their next three games, keeping three clean sheets on their way to finishing in first place. Philadelphia Union PPP NJ 2009 would make it a clean sweep of the age group for the club winning the Matt Miazga bracket.
14U Girls
In the Trinity Rodman bracket, PDA Blaze Blue 2010 defeated A-Game 2-0 in the final, which was a rematch of the opening game that PDA won 4-0 between the two sides. In the Andi Sullivan bracket, Mount Laurel United (MLU) Elite 2009 defeated NJ Surf South Shore 2009 Girls 3-1 in the final.
15U Boys
In the Tim Weah bracket, Jersey Shore Boca Jr FC Silva won first place defeating Philadelphia Union 2008 PPP Gold in the final, after they defeated Jersey Knights in penalties to decide the tie-breaker.
15U Girls
In the Alyssa Naeher bracket, NJ Surf South Shore 2008 Girls was the clear top team in the group stage, going 3-0-0 and finishing four points ahead of Berlin SC Blitz 2008. In the Final, Berlin used its experience of close games on day one where both matches ended in a tie as neither team found the winning goal. This time around, the kept strong NJ Surf side from scoring, and would come away with the championship.
